sorry, more links

Folkstreams calls itself "A National Preserve of Documentary Films about American Roots Cultures"

The National Film Board of Canada wants to show you a few things.

14 Tracks seems like a good source for learning about interesting music, but I just found out about it.

Movies I Want to See This Month

I was pretty successful with going to see the films I wanted to check out at Filmmakers last month (although I'm still sad i didn't make it to the Harris to see Ballast). Here's my list for this month:

Sleeper: Thursday Feb 19 7:00pm, Melwood
I like Woody Allen, and as I've said before, I'll see any of his films at least once, even though a lot of his recent movies have been such crap. I've realized though that I haven't seen many of his older (and probably better) films. I've wanted to see Sleeper for a while and there will be free snacks afterward!

Oscar Nominated Shorts: ongoing, Regent Square and Melwood
I'll probably just go to see the animated shorts. And after looking up the info and seeing images from them, I'm not even sure I'll go to see those. The Oscars are so lackluster this year. I'm not even going to post a picture.

Wendy and Lucy: Friday Feb 20-Thursday Feb 26, Regent Square
Old Joy was definitely in the category of films that grew on me and stayed with me after it was over. Wendy and Lucy looks great and I've heard nothing but good things about Michele Williams' performance.

That's it for this month, which is fine since it's a short month and already halfway over!

Oh, & he directed The Cell I guess.

I watched The Fall last night. It was directed by the director of R.E.M.'s Losing my Religion video. The best part of it, for me, was the 6-year old who plays the main character. She probably gets #2 on the top 5 realisitc kid portrayals list, if I had one. (#1 being Ponette.) I still don't know what Spike Jonze and David Fincher have to do with any of it, but their names are on the DVD cover.

Here are some pictures taken during the filming (also where the picture that I used on this post came from), which wikipedia says took 4 years. In the behind the scenes featurettes you see them leading an elephant into the ocean to get shots of it swimming. That's another good part--the movie is visually delicious and doesn't have much CGI (that I could tell).
